Since many psychologists have begun providing telemental health services during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to be aware that guidelines for providing telemental health services exist. In addition to standards or guidelines adopted by national organizations that are discipline specific, there are interprofessional guidelines as well. The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and American Psychiatric Association in 2018 released Best Practices in Videoconferencing-Based Telemental Health. The guidelines, an updated earlier version of ATA telemental health guidelines, considers administrative, technical, and clinical issues when doing telemental health and lists key references for further reading.
